Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Loan Against Shares?

A Loan Against Shares (LAS) lets you borrow money by pledging shares held in your demat account, without selling them. You remain the owner of the shares and continue to receive dividends, bonuses and other corporate benefits. AK Investments arranges these loans through our RBI-regulated lending partners, based on the value of your approved shares.

You select shares to pledge from your demat account. The lender marks a lien on them and sets a borrowing limit, usually as an overdraft. You withdraw funds as needed and pay interest only on the amount used. If share prices fall, you may need to pledge more or repay part of the loan. On repayment, you can further utilise up to the borrowing limit.

Lenders typically offer up to 50% of the market value of approved shares. For example, pledged shares worth ₹10 lakh may fetch a limit of around ₹5 lakh. The exact amount depends on the lender’s approved share list, the quality of your holdings and applicable RBI norms. The limit is revalued regularly as share prices change.
